Sometimes reading guys can be quite hard. Even in this day and age, men try to hide their feelings, so they wont appear "soft" in front of their friends. They worry that showing emotions will make them appear weak, so many men will do their best to mask their feelings.
Luckily, the untrained mind cannot consciously control all body language signals. As long as the guy hasn't been studying body language, it's unlikely he will know what signals he is giving off.
This means that if you know what to look for, you'll be able to read guys like a book, no matter how hard they try and hide their feelings!
1. Look for a smile.
It may sound simple, but one of the most important things to look for is a smile.
If a guy is attracted to you, then he will feel happy and comfortable looking at you. And he will usually show this in the form of a smile.
Now... this may not be a huge, beaming smile. It could even be quite tentative.
The important point is that he seems happy to see you, and isn't frowning or indifferent.
The other day I was with my husband at the pub, and saw a great example of how NOT to use body language to flirt.
My husband was on the dance floor, and I was walking through to join him.
Before I reached him though, I noticed a young girl that had her eye on him.
Now- I don't mind that (I trust my husband), but what I saw next amazed me!
She walked right up to him (About a foot in front of his face). She slowly looked over his whole body and then she stared right at him, for about a minute! Talk about aggressive flirting!
Now- she was doing one thing right- eye contact is an important part of flirting.
But she was doing two things wrong- which totally ruined the effect.
Firstly- she maintained eye contact way too long. She should have looked away a few times. Blinking wouldn't have hurt as well!
But the second thing she did wrong was even worse! The whole time she was doing this little flirting "performance", she didn't smile once!
Not a single time!
My husband then turned away from her, and the girl walked away unhappily.
The first thing he did when he saw me was tell me about the whole thing (See, I told you I can trust him!)
I asked him the effect the body language had on him. He said it was almost intimidating, and that her body language made her seem like a predator, on the prowl for a man.
Now- was this the effect the girl wanted? Possibly... but probably not. I doubt she wants to scare men off- but that's exactly what she is doing.
Make sure you don't make the same mistake!
Look... I'm not saying eye contact isn't important- It is! But make sure you smile a little as well! It makes all the difference! And don't forget to look away occasionally!
